According to recent announcement by National Safety Council President Janet Froetscher, talking on cell phone while driving is comparable to driving while drunk. Despite the known dangers of talking on cell phones and texting while driving, it is very common occurrence. Only California, New Jersey, Washington, Connecticut, New York and Utah have banned the use of handheld communication devices while driving, but other states are considering similar legislation. Reacting to calls from safety organizations, cell phone accident victims and victims’ advocates, Florida Senate Bill 172 was proposed to restrict the use of cell phones for talking and texting while driving.
