The law is full of terminology and lingo that, to the average person, often sounds like completely foreign language. Unless you are directly involved in the legal system, you have no reason to learn this special language. If, however, you are the defendant in criminal prosecution, there are some concepts and terms you really should learn, particularly if they relate to your sentence if you are convicted. People often use the terms “probation” and “parole” interchangeably, when in fact they are not the same.
