Public and private entities – including contractors, electricians, plumbers, drywallers, painters and others on construction sites – are subject to protecting employees at construction sites, building demolitions, excavations, and commercial remodels. All work crews on the site for any reason, including for repairs, window washing or site clean up, count under these provisions. Violations of Sections 200 (placement of machine and other equipment), 240 (scaffolding, ladder, braces and rope requirements) and 241 (floor and elevator restrictions) of New York’s labor laws can result in shutdowns of construction sites and liability for workers’ injuries.
