That’s because Uber supplies its Seattle drivers with supplemental insurance that offers extra coverage against injuries and losses suffered by crash victims, over-and-above the regular auto insurance coverage an Uber driver must carry under Washington law. That extra coverage, however, only applies in particular circumstances and varying amounts: While an Uber driver is available and awaiting ride request, the extra coverage consists of $50,000 in bodily injury protection, per person; $100,000 in bodily injury protection per accident; and $25,000 in property damage protection per accident. While an Uber driver is en route to pick up passenger and during trips, the extra coverage protecting victims consists of $1,000,000 in third-party liability protection; and uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage.
