Under Illinois law, medical malpractice occurs when healthcare professional fails to provide the proper standard of care, causing harm to patient. There are instances when medical mistakes occur or when patient is dissatisfied with medical professionals’ care, but it does not mean it was malpractice. In order for medical malpractice to be proven, the plaintiff must show that their injury was caused by breach of the accepted standard of care. Medical malpractice does not cover general dissatisfaction with treatment results or outcomes; rather, it covers cases in which the healthcare provider’s negligence directly caused harm to the patient.
